Here's another link to a website which has images of stone working tools, the set of hammers looking exactly the same as the hammers we use now. Unfortunately it's in Italian and the Google translation leaves something to be desired so I can't quite figure out whether they are from a Medievil workshop or from an ancient site.

I've just updated the links page. I don't do link swaps just with people to get better search engine results, I only put up links to websites that I think might be of interest to people who've come onto my website in the first place. There are suppliers if you want modern materials, KS2/schools historical interpreters, living history groups, (a great way to get out in the summer and see a whole range of historical crafts recreated) and a number of other websites. You can find the page here |

While it would be great if everyone bought their mosaic stone from me I relaise that if you're somewhere like the USA then shipping from the UK can be prohibitively expensive! So here's 2 links to suppliers in the US who have the square cut tiles. Making a copy of a Roman mosaic using these very regular square pieces isn't ideal but it can be done. USA Suppliers A company who sell smalti, stone (10mm thick, you'll need a hammer and hardie) and even lime putty if you want to try out the Double Reverse Method! |

This is the link to the website of The Association for the Study of Marble and Other Stones In Antiquity (ASMOSIA). This will be of interest to anyone wanting to find out more about the use of stone in the ancient world. I'll be writing a number of articles from the information gleaned from their publications and other sources. http://www.asmosia.org/
