Here's the latest garden mosaic, a copy of a Roman mosaic from North Africa dating to 3rd century AD. I've been meaning to do this one for a while, the problem was I had to resize it to be able to fit it onto the paving slab (44cm diameter) and this meant for some of the details on the head and legs I had to go down to cutting 5mm tesserae. This does mean that the work takes longer. I've noticed that a lot of roman mosaic of horses and gladiators are quite detailed and so are either larger in size of are set using quite small tesserae. |

I've just completed another exterior Roman mosaic. This pattern is classified as 'Swastika-peltae with polychrome knot'. I just refer to it as knot and whirly spikes!

Here's an image of a mosaic I have in progress at the moment. 5mm thick marble tesserae on a paving slab.
