Figural Work

New mosaic finished

New piece, a copy of a mosaic from Antioch.
It's come out ok, interesting to see the difference with a red background, (it's from Antioch), the whole floor has figural pieces all with this background colour.

The reason I'm posting this up is it illustrate that at this stage I'm not concerned about how good my colour match is. My main focus is on the way the lines flow, look at the face, the lower abdomen and the legs. These areas illustrate how the tesserae are set in lines which flow in a certain way to show anatomical lines.

Learning Figure Drawing for Mosaic work

If you want to use figural work in your mosaics but need to learn to build up the figures in an anatomically correct way then this book is for you. It's brilliant, clear, concise and not spending hours agonising over your piece of art!
It allows you to understand how figures are composed from the absolute basics to muscle shading. And then you learn how to create a figure in motion and also how to compose faces.
I know this might seem like a bit of a strange choice but whatever your subject is it's still about your work as a mosaicist.
