ROMAN MOSAIC WORKSHOPS - Create a Piece of History
Irregular Shape Tesserae

I produce tesserae (tiles) for my mosaics which are designed to look the same in a finished mosaic as those used by the Roman mosaicists.
Termed 'Antique' cut they are all about the same average size, 10mm but they have random measurements along each edge. Each side then ranges betwen 8mm - 12mm, (the thickness being either 4mm or 10mm depending on the use).
If you've never made any mosaics before or are used to the more regular shaped modern ceramic mosaic tiles then I've written a brief guide here to help you get the best out of them.

As you can see although they are all within the same size range they are very slightly different from each other.

What you need to do is set these in such a way that you can create the pattern in such a way that it flows. The sizes, and we're mainly talking about the width of the line of tesserae may vary but the pattern remains consistant.
