Circles Mosaic- Setting out
There are a number of principles which you apply to all geometric Roman mosaic to help you recreate the pattern.
Here is a short sequence of photos to explain how I set this piece out.

1.
Find the centre Set out the central circle Set out the outer ciurcles, note the difference in size. I've scaled these down to fit the whole mosaic in.

2.
Keep the original for reference, you use the same proportions but you change the scale.

3.
Set out the borderlines of the first circle. You can see on this I have worked out the width of these bands, they are 5 tesserae wide, black borderlines plus 3 colours.

4.
Fill in all of the 2nd circle, note where the ends face.

 |
5.
Set one of the outer circles, this one just fitted in. I could have done with another 5mm.

|
 |
6.
Set the whole of one quadrent, you then repeat this for the rest of the mosaic. When I redo this one I will reduce the 2nd circle width by 5mm and add this extra width to the 4 outer circles.
